Capchar

The CapChar system

Batch pyrolysis technology and system development

CapChar’s batch pyrolysis development brings together biomass conversion, heat recovery, thermal energy storage and carbon recording. Our pilot work informs the technology, with further development needed before smaller systems are available to order.

More than a pyrolysis machine.

CapChar connects conversion, heat recovery, thermal storage and carbon recording into a practical operating system.

We work with specialist technology and manufacturing partners, specifying how equipment and services fit together at your site.

The full operating chain

  1. Feedstock reception, preparation and drying
  2. Pyrolysis and controlled heat recovery
  3. Thermal storage and suitable heat use
  4. Biochar conditioning, handling and weighing
  5. Production records, sampling and end-use evidence

Batch pyrolysis development

Our development includes batch pyrolysis for suitable woody biomass. Pilot work informs feedstock handling, operation and heat recovery; commercial scope and availability need to be confirmed before an order.

Smaller batch systems - in development

Smaller batch configurations remain part of our development direction. They are not currently available to order. We welcome enquiries to understand volumes, budgets and future demand.

Thermal storage - the CapChar layer

Our thermal battery is designed to capture heat and make it available when needed. Storage capacity, discharge temperature and usable output are assessed with the intended application.

The right feedstock matters.

Our initial focus is suitable woody biomass, including appropriately prepared wood chip. Moisture, particle size, contamination and source all affect the system design.

Bring us the material specification and the quantities you actually have. Other residues, including crop-derived material, require a specific technical assessment before we confirm suitability.

What will shape your proposal?

Material and throughput

Annual volume, seasonality, moisture, storage space and the preparation needed to create a consistent feed.

Heat and services

Drying or heating demand, temperatures, operating hours, electricity supply and heat distribution.

Operating economics

Equipment scope, labour, maintenance, testing and verification costs, and realistic outlets for heat and biochar.

A clear scope before an order.

Each proposal should set out included equipment, site responsibilities, performance assumptions, commissioning and acceptance criteria. Biochar quality and output requirements are agreed for the intended use.

Next step

Start with your site.

Tell us about your biomass, heat demand, available budget and timing. We’ll assess the practical fit before developing a system proposal.

Practical questions

Biomass pyrolysis system questions.

What is an integrated biomass pyrolysis system?

It is a combination of equipment and recording processes that prepares suitable biomass, converts it into biochar and heat, and manages those outputs. CapChar integrates partner pyrolysis equipment with heat recovery, its heat battery and carbon infrastructure.

What feedstock can a CapChar system use?

The initial focus is suitable woody biomass, including appropriately prepared wood chip. Source, contamination, particle size and moisture need assessment. Other biomass types require a specific technical assessment before suitability is confirmed.

How much does a system cost?

CapChar quotes each project after assessing equipment scope, throughput, feedstock preparation, heat use and site requirements. Installation, staffing, maintenance, laboratory testing and carbon verification also belong in the business case.
